La Carrera del Agua y dos manifestaciones complican la movilidad en el centro de Madrid con cortes al tráfico.

Carrera del Agua

The mobility in the center of Madrid will be significantly affected this Sunday, March 23, due to the celebration of the 42nd edition of the Carrera del Agua and two demonstrations taking place in different areas of the capital. These activities, which will bring together thousands of people, will require modifications to public transport routes and will result in traffic disruptions in several key areas.

Carrera del Agua: Routes and Transportation Diversions

The 42nd Carrera del Agua, with 4,500 registered runners, will start from Mateo Inurria Street (10 km circuit) and Padre Damián Street (5 km circuit), passing through the districts of Chamartín, Chamberí, and Tetuán.

This event, organized to highlight the importance of water, will impact 33 EMT Madrid bus lines that operate in these areas. These lines will modify their usual routes in the morning to align with the circuits approved by the Spanish Athletics Federation.

‘Yes to Life’ Demonstration: Timings and Affected Areas

On the other hand, more than 500 pro-life associations will demonstrate under the slogan ‘Yes to Life’ in a march starting at 12:00 from Serrano Street, corner with Goya, to Cibeles Square, passing through Recoletos Avenue.

The event, featuring testimonials, musical performances, and a balloon release, is marked by the color green and aims to defend «life from conception to natural death.» The concentration in this central area will lead to traffic disruptions and possible congestion on major arteries in the center of Madrid.

‘Tsunami for Public Services’: Impact on the Center of Madrid

At the same time, another demonstration named ‘Tsunami for public services’ will follow the route from Puerta del Sol to Juan Goytisolo Square, in front of the Reina Sofía Museum, demanding «100% direct» management of public services. Organized by local associations and Madrid unions, a press conference is scheduled for 10:30 to detail their demands against «the neoliberal model.» This route will particularly impact traffic in the Sol and Atocha areas, further complicating traffic in the heart of the city.

Tips for Getting Around Madrid

Citizens are advised to use public transport, with foresight of possible delays, and avoid private vehicle travel in the center during peak hours. Authorities have urged staying informed through official channels to be aware of updated diversions and restrictions.
