Avances de la Comunidad de Madrid para preservar su patrimonio natural

During this meeting, where experts from around the world discuss urban planning and nature, Díaz Ayuso has emphasized that one of the keys to Madrid’s success as Spain’s economic engine, «and one of the trendiest regions in Europe and the world,» has been the care of artistic and natural heritage, making it compatible with prosperity.

The president of Madrid has also outlined the main political lines of the Energy, Climate, and Air Strategy 2023-2030, aiming for the Community of Madrid to become a decarbonized and energetically safer region, at the forefront from an economic and environmental perspective. To achieve this, she explained, they have the most robust air measurement network in Spain.

Regarding waste management, she has announced that the upcoming Circular Economy Strategy will also contribute to job creation and commercial activity. In terms of security, she highlighted plans to address water risks and floods, forest fires, radiation, and hazardous transportation, as well as Emergency plans in dams. «We work with the sole purpose of reacting as soon as possible when any fatality occurs, to protect the lives, properties, and natural environment of citizens,» she emphasized.

Finally, the president of Madrid referred to Arco Verde, the environmental corridor of nearly 200 kilometers that will surround the capital, connecting dozens of municipalities and regional parks with the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park, reintroducing nature into cities where native species had abandoned them.

€2 billion to care for water, the most valuable resource

Regarding the comprehensive water cycle management policy of the Canal de Isabel II, Díaz Ayuso highlighted that this public company will invest over €2 billion in the next six years, the highest amount of this century, to care for the «most valuable resource that cannot be created.»

She also noted that nearly 8 million residents enjoy the best water rates, with the least number of losses in their 18,000 kilometers of pipelines, and significant works to protect against high-impact weather events, such as Europe’s largest storm tanks and the best sanitation and purification systems to return excellent quality water to rivers and obtain regenerated water for multiple uses.
