Más de cincuenta escuelas públicas en Madrid enseñarán educación secundaria el próximo año

Díaz Ayuso announced that this action, which was mentioned in the state of the region debate last September, has been well received. «This indicates that we are on a very good path and is likely the model for many other schools that will join this commitment with the Madrid regional government,» she added.

She emphasized that this expansion will continue to grow in the coming years as the educational community requests it, while also highlighting how this project has sparked significant interest outside Madrid. «It is a discussion that is being held in Spain, so if we can serve as an example, it will be welcomed.»

During her visit to Gaudem College in the capital, Díaz Ayuso explained that these 52 centers belong to twenty municipalities and will implement the progressive measure. Therefore, schools with 11 and 12-year-olds finishing sixth grade this year can start the first compulsory secondary education (ESO) and subsequently, ESO.

In recent months, the schools themselves have approached the Ministry of Education, Science, and Universities to participate in this initiative, which will be effective in all new construction centers and then expand to all those already in operation.

In all cases, the request had to be approved by the school council, which includes the management team, teachers, administration and services staff, parents, and municipal officials. It was also accompanied by a spatial plan confirming that their facilities could accommodate the new courses with minor adjustments or work.

Ministry technicians have verified that the 52 centers meet these requirements, so they have already been informed that they will be converted into Ceipo (Primary and Secondary Education Center) and will organize two secondary school courses, starting with 1 in 2025/26.
