Ayuso garantiza asesoramiento legal gratuito a víctimas de ocupación ilegal
Thanks to this agreement, the affected parties will also have legal representation of attorneys in court and psychological support through the network of Offices for Victim Assistance (OAVD). To address these demands, the regional government will create a new specialized service regarding occupation through the 012 Citizen Assistance of the Community of Madrid, establishing a communication procedure with 112 Occupation so that victims can instantly receive this assistance.
The head of the regional government has emphasized the need to modify all laws that prevent judges from immediately expelling squatters, restoring their ability to act urgently in procedures. «These are symptoms of deep-rooted problems, but they are not problems of Spain, Spanish society, or our Constitution, which are good and healthy. They are problems of those who, from positions of power and administrations, do not do what must be done, with legal rigor and respect for the truth,» emphasized Díaz Ayuso.
Disruption of coexistence and deteriorated neighborhoods
The president of Madrid has warned that behind each complaint, there are people, property owners who lose their homes, neighbors who see their coexistence disrupted, and entire neighborhoods deteriorating. «Many of these homes ultimately provide shelter for other businesses, whether legal or illegal, such as human trafficking or drug dens,» she added.
In this regard, she noted that the Madrid government will make available to the affected parties all measures and tools at its disposal to stand by their side, help them recover their homes, and prevent this problem from escalating. «Because this is about crimes, but it is also about fundamental rights,» she stated.
Díaz Ayuso highlighted that, from its launch in June 2022 until April 30 of this year, the 112 Occupation hotline has received 4,041 calls, during which 246 citizens reported this crime on their private property, leading to the prevention or eviction of their homes on 44 occasions.
The document has been signed, in addition to President Díaz Ayuso, by the deans of the Illustrious Bar Association of Madrid, Eugenio Ribón; of Alcalá de Henares, Ángel Llamas, and of Madrid, Alberto García.
