The president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, accompanied by the mayor of Las Rozas, José de la Uz, the Culture Councillor Mariano de Paco, and the Culture Councillor, Gloria Fernández, inaugurated this morning the exhibition «Centenarian Madrileños: The Wisdom of Longevity» at the Auditorium Hall of the city. The exhibit, which showcases photographs and testimonies of centenarians from the region, aims to create a space for citizens to reflect on their legacy. In Spain, there are nearly 20,000 centenarians, with 1,700 of them residing in the Community of Madrid. Their longevity represents a personal achievement and, at the same time, a valuable link to the past of a community that has been the scene of crucial historical moments.

«This exhibition is a legacy that all these people pass on to future generations. Hopefully, over the years, their wisdom and experience will continue to be transmitted in life. At 86 years old, the Community of Madrid has the highest life expectancy in all of Europe and one of the highest in the world. This is because we are increasingly taking care of our health, but also because we are a region with many natural spaces, the best public health system, and more. Additionally, Madrileños have a unique lifestyle: we are street-smart, very sociable, and have a zest for life that sets us apart,» said Ayuso during her speech.

De la Uz highlighted that this exhibition «helps to repay the debt we owe to our elders, the moral obligation to thank them for the legacy they leave us, preserve it, and, if possible, improve it.» «One of our hallmarks – continued the mayor – is helping families and the elderly, who, let’s not deceive ourselves, do not always occupy the place they deserve in Spanish society. This is not the case in the Community of Madrid and Las Rozas, where we care for their needs, keep them as active members of society, leverage their experience, listen to them, and help them live longer and better,» he added.

The Auditorium Hall, located at the Joaquín Rodrigo Auditorium, will host this exhibition until April 7th, with opening hours from Monday to Friday, from 10 am to 2 pm and 5 pm to 9 pm, and Saturdays from 10 am to 1:30 pm.

Music in the cultural program

The leisure and cultural program for this weekend in Las Rozas comes with two musical proposals. To start, the Sacred Music Series kicks off with «Il pianto de la Madonna,» a concert included in the International Sacred Art Festival presenting a selection of works by great Italian composers of the 17th century, such as Claudio Monteverdi, Giovanni Felice Sances, Alessandro Grandi, and Tarquinio Merula, among others. The music, of exceptional beauty and depth, will invite the audience to enjoy and meditate in equal measure in this concert scheduled for tomorrow at 8:15 pm at the parish of San Miguel Arcángel.

Fans of Swedish band ABBA’s music have a date this Saturday at the Joaquín Rodrigo Auditorium with the tribute show «EUROABBA – Dancing with ABBA.» The resemblance of the performers to the originals, costume changes, live music and vocals, choirs, sounds, and an attractive stage set are the essential ingredients of this show, which transports the audience back in time to experience an ABBA concert, the most Eurovision-esque Swedish band. Two sessions have been scheduled, at 6 pm and 9 pm.

Activities in the libraries and exhibitions

Younger children can enjoy the most entertaining stories this Friday at 6 pm at the three municipal libraries. Story Time, with free entry until full capacity, will bring La Madeja to the Las Matas library, narrating Puppeteer Tales; Elia Tralará will tell Extraordinary Neighborhood at the Las Rozas library; and Légolas will present Phew! What a Scare at the Leon Tolstoi library.

Starting today, the winners and selected works of the 37th Jesus and Adan Photography Contest can be visited at the J.M. Díaz Caneja Hall. Organized through the Youth Council, the contest is aimed at non-professional young people between 14 and 30 years old, showcasing the talent and creativity of the new generation of photographers in this exhibition available until April 3rd.

Additionally, at the Maruja Mallo Hall of the Pérez de la Riva Cultural Center, the exhibition «Carmen la Griega Take Me Where There Is Life» continues until April 6th. This project stems from the symbiosis between caring for a father with Alzheimer’s and artistic experimentation. As part of the Mental Health Plan of Las Rozas, this exhibition demonstrates artistic practice as a driving force for improving the quality of life of patients diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers.

Your Face Sounds Familiar, at the Youth Club

The Youth Club Your Space, aimed at young people aged 11 to 17, has prepared the activity Your Face Sounds Familiar for this weekend, where participants will form groups to recreate the music videos of famous artists and dress up to imitate them better. In addition, they will have a meeting space to gather and spend their free time with table football, ping-pong, music, or board games, on Friday and Saturday from 5:30 pm to 9 pm at the Youth Center.
