Ayuso inaugura la exposición Madrileños centenarios: un tributo a una generación llena de valores que ha construido esta España que heredamos
As the regional president has pointed out, this is a «tribute to those who, after a lifetime, have built the Spain that three generations have inherited today.» «This Spain that we have had the privilege of inheriting today but that has been built after so many testimonies of generations full of values, each one from a personal situation or a political option, but who raised our country with many difficulties, with a lot of work always around respect for others, always strong in the face of adversity,» she emphasized.
This is a project of Red Itiner, a platform for cultural collaboration between the regional government and the different municipalities that can be visited for free in the localities where it stops such as Soto del Real, Talamanca de Jarama, Alcorcón, or Alpedrete. «Each image allows us to know a little more about those who have witnessed these changes in Spain, from their streets, hobbies, personal commitments, squares, and homes. They are the face of generations that have left their mark on the Community of Madrid,» she added.
The protagonists of this exhibition, curated by Ignacio Gil and Rocío Gayarre, were born in the early decades of the 20th century, a time when both Spain and the region were beginning to modernize and expand, but still retained the inequalities and political tensions characteristic of the time.
All of them have experienced the transformation of daily life thanks to social, technological, and scientific advances, from cultural evolution to the growth of iconic neighborhoods or the development of today’s Madrid. Currently, there are almost 20,000 centenarians in our country, of which 1,700 are from Madrid.
Throughout 2025, Red Itiner will promote access to art in 77 municipalities through a comprehensive program of ten free and temporary exhibitions that remain in each of them for about three weeks and pass through between 10 and 15 different venues.
