Ayuso indica que la Comunidad de Madrid acogerá a menores migrantes según sus recursos.
The president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, has stated that the region will accommodate unaccompanied foreign minors «wherever resources are available» and has criticized the Spanish government’s option to «set up a camp and leave them crowded, without knowing who they are, where they come from, and where they are going.»
During a press breakfast organized by Europa Press, she lashed out against the «socialist demagoguery» on this issue, which she finds «unbearable.» Specifically, she referred to the minor center at La Cantueña in Fuenlabrada, following criticisms from the mayor, Javier Ayala. «I am a socialist, I am progressive, but proportionate to the banner and the problem,» reproached the president.
«We have established a new center in Fuenlabrada, equipped with the latest infrastructure, where we want these kids to study Vocational Training, learn the language, integrate, and it has already faced numerous attacks from all directions, including in court, where they have lost all the lawsuits on seven occasions because they obviously do not have the right,» she defended.
Madrid will expand La Cantueña and seek more locations to assist unaccompanied immigrant minors
However, she pointed out that resources for unaccompanied foreign minors are «limited» and currently «overwhelmed.»
«We are already dealing with many, not only minors, but also adults, who enter through Barajas and other places (…) We cannot do much, therefore, we follow the minor law and provide them with opportunities while they are with us, whether they are foreigners or not,» she stated, although she would prefer different conditions.
The Community of Madrid assisted 2,400 unaccompanied foreign minors in 2024
On the other hand, Ayuso hopes that the European Union «opens its eyes once and for all» with the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, in the face of «so many alarming warnings of various kinds that have triggered European institutions to action in other countries for much less.»
«From Aquarius to Open Arms, from secret agreements with Morocco to defending Algeria, since 2018, we have been endangering the safety of the streets, the integration of many legal immigrants who come to help lift Spain and the entire Europe, which sees Spain as a genuine sieve due to its demagogy and also its inability to believe in anything, and its instrumentalization of the drama of so many minors,» she criticized.
Ayuso criticizes Sánchez’s «regime of terror» that is dedicated to «humiliating and discrediting» his political opponents
She expects the European institutions to listen to what many organizations in the judicial sphere, independent associations, citizens, media, MEPs, and now also neighboring countries «affected by the autocratic policies of the government, starting with immigration, which are harming everyone.» «Because it is not just a problem for Spain, it originates here, but it spreads across the entire continent,» she pointed out.
