The President of the Junta de Extremadura, María Guardiola, will hold a meeting of institutional collaboration with her counterpart in Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, this Monday and Tuesday, February 24 and 25, in Mérida, with the backdrop of a «common concern» for the closure of the Almaraz Nuclear Power Plant.

The President of Madrid will travel to Mérida on Monday with part of her Government Council to discuss economic, social, and cultural programs and initiatives for the benefit of citizens of both regions with the Extremadura government.

Specifically, it is expected that the councilors from Madrid, including Miguel Ángel García Martín for Presidency, Justice, and Local Administration; Rocío Albert for Economy, Finance, and Employment; Jorge Rodrigo for Housing, Transport, and Infrastructure; and Carlos Novillo for Environment, Agriculture, and Interior, will meet with their counterparts from the Extremadura government.

During this meeting, topics related to healthcare and dependency, children and the elderly, victims of violence against women, education, housing and transportation, entrepreneurship, research and digitalization, administrative modernization, emergencies, culture, tourism and sports, and livestock and agribusiness, among others, will be discussed.

Madrid and Extremadura will meet to oppose the closure of the Almaraz Nuclear Power Plant

Specifically, Guardiola and Ayuso will have a meeting at 12:00 pm this Monday at the Junta de Extremadura Presidency headquarters, and later, at 1:00 pm, they will sign a collaboration protocol between both administrations.

Similarly, at 6:00 pm this Monday, María Guardiola will accompany Isabel Díaz Ayuso to visit Trujillo with the mayor of this town in Cáceres, María Inés Rubio.

For Tuesday, the 24th, a visit by the presidents to the Almaraz Nuclear Power Plant is planned, whose cessation of operations concerns both administrations due to its social, economic, and energy impact.

Also, during Tuesday morning, teleconference meetings will be held by the rest of the councilors, who will join the ones previously held to prepare for the meeting, as announced by the Junta de Extremadura in a press release.
