Comienzan las obras del tercer carril en la M-607 durante 24 meses
La Comunidad de Madrid begins on Wednesday the construction of the third lane of the M-607 road, between the area of Tres Cantos Norte and the southern variant of Colmenar Viejo that connects to the M-618, to increase its capacity and decongest «one of the sections with the highest traffic intensity in the region, where 62,000 vehicles circulate daily«.
The Directorate General of Highways has designed the project, with a 24-month execution period, which involves expanding 14.6 kilometers (7.3 in each direction), to alleviate the high volume of traffic that the section of this dual carriageway supports and thus reduce the road safety risks posed by the delays that occur during peak hours.
The regional government is investing 37.7 million in the works on this regional road, which will be carried out in two phases, initially between kilometer points 23 and 29 with a narrowing down to two lanes, and subsequently, between 29 and 30.6.

The Regional Transport Consortium (CRTM), in coordination with the affected administrations and municipalities, is designing an alternative mobility plan to ensure smooth travel.
It will include measures affecting the nine urban and interurban bus lines, eight daytime and one nighttime: 717, 721, 722, 723, 724, 725, 726, 876, and N702. The same organization has requested the reinforcement of Cercanías Renfe for the duration of the works.
The Transport Councilor of Colmenar Viejo, Jesús Fuillerat, emphasizes that public transportation will be reinforced in response to the detours and road closures expected during these tasks.
Throughout the construction, two lanes of traffic will be maintained in the descending direction, and at some point, in some sections, the ascending direction will be reduced to a single lane.
Starting this Wednesday, the maximum permitted speed will be 60 kilometers per hour, and the lanes will have a width of three meters, while the bike lane will have temporary detours.
The expansion of the Magic Box will have 8,000 new seats and will be ready by 2028
In addition to the closure of the Colmenar Viejo exit via La Mina hill, the tunnel for changing direction will remain closed during the final stretch to make the necessary modifications to ensure two-way traffic.
Furthermore, in response to a requirement from the Ministry of Environment, an ecoduct will be built, similar to the El Pardo tunnels on the M-40, to ensure a natural passage.
