El Gobierno de Madrid rechaza el decreto de reparto de menores migrantes
The Family, Youth, and Social Affairs Councilor of the Community of Madrid, Ana Dávila, has criticized as «illegal and unconstitutional» the royal decree that regulates the procedure for the relocation and transfer of unaccompanied migrant minors in the event of an extraordinary migration contingency, which is being discussed this Friday at the Childhood Sectorial Conference.
This is how Dávila expressed herself in statements to the media before entering the meeting, where the councilors of the autonomous communities and the Minister of Youth and Childhood, Sira Rego, are participating, held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Social Rights. According to Dávila, what they are conveying to this meeting is that «the legal services of 11 autonomous communities» have assessed «that there is unconstitutionality in that decree for the distribution of minors.»
«The Spanish government continues with this regulation that is absolutely illegal and unconstitutional in the eyes of the legal services of the 11 autonomous communities that we have referred to the Constitutional Court. These 11 autonomous communities, including some socialist ones like Castilla-La Mancha, also represent 70% of the population,» Dávila emphasized.
The Community of Madrid warns of «overcrowding» in its youth centers
In this sense, when asked about what proposal they will present at the sectorial meeting, the Madrid councilor assured that they bring «a total amendment» because, in her opinion, «it is not possible to operate» by transferring «minors as if they were packages.»
Dávila pointed out that what they have always advocated from the Community of Madrid is «coordination» to help each other among autonomous communities. «As we have always done, because Madrid is supportive,» she defended. However, she warned that Madrid is also attending to «a large number of minors» — «2,442» last year — and denounced that the government is «ignoring the problem» that all autonomous communities have been conveying for «months» about the tense and overwhelmed youth centers.
Dávila considered this Friday «ridiculous» and «laughable» the amount of 22 million euros that the Canary Islands, Ceuta, Melilla, and the Balearic Islands will receive to assist the migrant minors arriving in their territory and demanded that the government guarantee the funding of the communities that will receive these children, as established in the reform of the Immigration Law.
Minister Rego accuses the PP of «blocking»
For her part, the Minister of Youth and Childhood, Sira Rego, expects the transfers of unaccompanied migrant minors to begin in August, taking into account the procedural cadence; and she denounced a «blockade» by the People’s Party autonomous communities.
«Once again we find the blockage of the PP autonomous communities that have come back with a bellicose attitude, very focused on the procedural, with little political argumentation or, if I may, with the only political argumentation of advancing the ultra agenda of Vox,» reproached Rego.
