El incidente de Carabanchel pone en alerta a Madrid por los efectos del calor en el arbolado
Tragic fall of a large branch in Madrid. A 25-year-old young man is in critical condition after a large branch fell on him while he was sitting on a bench in San Vicente de Paúl square, in the Carabanchel district. The City Council assures that the tree had been inspected. The intense heat these days can lead to tree or branch falls.
The Mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, has committed to continue with periodic inspections of the trees following this incident
«We hope he can recover even though he is in critical condition. The health services are doing their best to save his life,» he stated. «And of course, we will also conduct our own studies on that tree. We will continue to conduct a continuous audit of the tree population in the city of Madrid. The upcoming days are not easy because extreme heat conditions substantially affect the trees, as high temperatures are very harmful to tree stability by weakening the roots,» he explained.
