In Aranjuez, a huge downpour of rain that fell early this afternoon has caused flooding in streets, garages, and basements. The mayor, Miguel Gómez, explained that 20 liters per square meter had fallen and the sewers could not handle so much water. «It’s unbelievable what has fallen in 15 minutes, around 3:30 p.m., and there is no sewer that can handle it,» he said in statements to Telemadrid.

«We have managed about 200 reports that have reached the Local Police headquarters,» added the mayor.

Between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., the 112 Emergency Services of the Community of Madrid handled 89 incidents, with 40 interventions by the Community’s Firefighters in the south and east of the region, mainly due to small floods in basements and garages.

In Aranjuez alone, there were 57 incidents managed by the 112, with 20 interventions by the Community’s Firefighters. The roads in the municipality are all operational.
