Getafe confirma planes para cerrar Corrugados y reutilizar el espacio para nueva actividad.
The Getafe City Council announced on Wednesday that it is «aware of very advanced negotiations» for the closure of the Corrugados foundry and to allocate «this space to a new economic activity.»
According to the Council, these negotiations have been taking place «over the last few months.»
Municipal sources have stated that they became aware of this through a communication from the company to the workers, emphasizing that this is a «great opportunity for Getafe, as it eliminates the main problem of environmental impact in the municipality, which particularly affected residents of Los Molinos and Juan de la Cierva.»

For years, the Residents’ Platform Affected by Corrugados has been denouncing the emissions and acoustic and olfactory pollution generated by the foundry in residential areas of the municipality.
In fact, the Community of Madrid has reviewed the Integrated Environmental Authorization (AAI) of the factory.

Meanwhile, from the Affected Platform and Ecologists in Action, Inmaculada Carrasco has pointed to the sale of land from the factory.
«It seems that it was a land sale operation that motivated the closure. It appears that ‘Corrugados’ did not meet the slight tightening of the AAI and found it easier to sell the land than to comply with the conditions for the factory to be compatible with the environment and residential areas,» she conveyed.

The residents remain in a prudent wait. «We are satisfied with the relief of pressure on residents due to pollution, but we are also supportive of the people who work there,» emphasized the spokesperson.
Recently, the Affected Platform stated that «an atrocity» is being committed with these new emissions. After sharing several videos on social media, the group demanded explanations and immediate actions.

«Corrugados has been gassing us since Saturday non-stop, and this is illegal,» warned the platform. The organization recalls that «Corrugados has up to 12 sanctioning proceedings open for emissions and noise that have not led to corrections of the deficiencies.»
Thus, they reproached the Community of Madrid for «not taking into account any of the presented allegations.» Precisely, the Getafe City Council submitted several allegations to the AAI.
Getafe challenges the Community’s authorization for the Corrugados foundry
The Mayor of Getafe, Sara Hernández, warned that they will go to court against the Community of Madrid if the revision of the Environmental Authorization does not address the requests to regulate noise, odors, and emissions.
