The city of Madrid will experience traffic disruptions throughout the day on Saturday on major roads in the capital due to various demonstrations coinciding with 8M, International Women’s Day, scheduled for this Saturday in its streets and will also involve route modifications for more than 130 EMT bus lines. Last year, around 34,000 women marched through the streets of Madrid in two marches organized by the 8M Commission and the Feminist Movement of Madrid

The feminist movement has called for two major marches that will traverse the center of the capital, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, with thousands of people expected to attend, causing overcrowding and mobility issues on major roads in the capital.

• The march organized by the 8M Commission will start at 12:00 from Atocha with the slogan ‘Feminists against racism, to the streets! Our lives depend on it’ and will end at Plaza de España. It is a march against racism and for the rights of «all».
• On the other hand, the Feminist Movement of Madrid will start at 18:00 from Plaza de Cibeles and also end at Plaza de España, with the slogan ‘Women fighting against global sexism’.

Traffic disruptions: use of public transport

The City Council has urged citizens to use public transport, especially the metro, to avoid delays in city travel.

A large number of people are expected at both marches, so planning any journey in advance is also recommended.

Over 130 EMT bus lines change routes

In total, five major events that will cause traffic disruptions between 10:30 and 22:00 at different times and sections.

• From 10:30 to 12:30, in the Retiro area, there will be traffic issues on Avenida de la Albufera, Avenida de la Ciudad de Barcelona, Paseo de la Infanta Isabel, and Plaza del Emperador Carlos V. A total of 35 EMT bus lines will change their route (001 – 6 – 8 – 10 – 14 – 19 – 24 – 26 – 27 – 32 – 34 – 37 – 45 – 54 – 56 – 57 – 58 – 59 – 85 – 86 – 102 – 103 – 111 – 113 – 136 – 141 – 148 – 152 – 156 – 203 – 310 – C1 – C2 – C03 – E1).
• From 11:30 to 14:00, in the Moncloa area, there will be disruptions on Paseo de Moret, Avenida de la Memoria, and Avenida de Puerta de Hierro. A total of 16 EMT bus lines will change their route (1 – 44 – 46 – 62 – 82 – 83 – 132 – 133 – 138 – 160 – 161 – 162 – 164 – A – C1 – G).
• From 11:30 to 15:00 in the city center, 35 EMT bus lines will change their route due to the march led by the 8M Commission under the slogan «Feminists against racism, to the streets! Our lives depend on it,» which will take place from 12:00 on Paseo del Prado, Plaza de Cibeles, Alcalá, Gran Vía, and Plaza de España: 001 – 1 – 002 – 2 – 3 – 5 – 9 – 10 – 14 – 15 – 20 – 25 – 27 – 34 – 37 – 39 – 44 – 45 – 46 – 51 – 52 – 53 – 74 – 75 – 133 – 138 – 146 – 147 – 148 – 150 – 203 (Atocha-Airport Station) – C1 – C2 – C03 – E1.
• From 15:00 to 20:00, in the Argüelles area, the disruptions will affect the Plaza de España and Calle Ferraz area. A total of 17 EMT bus lines will change their route due to the march on Paseo Castellana and Paseo Recoletos: 001 – 1 – 2 – 3 – 25 – 39 – 44 – 46 – 62 – 74 – 75 – 133 – 138 – 148 – 158 – C1 – C2.
• From 18:00 to 22:00, in the Gran Vía area, 30 EMT bus lines will change their route due to the march organized by the Feminist Movement of Madrid with the slogan ‘Women fighting against global sexism,’ which will pass through Plaza de Cibeles, Alcalá, and Gran Vía: 001 – 1 – 002 – 2 – 3 – 5 – 9 – 10 – 14 – 15 – 20 – 27 – 34 – 37 – 44 – 45 – 46 – 51 – 52 – 53 – 74 – 75 – 133 – 146 – 147 – 148 – 150 – 203 (Atocha-Airport Station) – C03 – E1.

Interurban lines affected by feminist marches

• From 10:30 to 12:30, due to a demonstration on Avenida de la Albufera, Ciudad de Barcelona, Paseo Infanta Isabel, and Plaza del Emperador Carlos V, lines 351, 352, and 353 from Ruiz will have a route diversion.
• In Fuenlabrada, starting at 10:00, affected lines L1, L2, L3, L4, L5, 468, 491, 492, 493, 496, and 527.
• In Móstoles, starting at 8:00, line L5 is affected.
