Inauguración de las Olimpiadas Escolares de Las Rozas: 30ª edición.

Yesterday, Sunday, the opening ceremony of the 30th edition of the Las Rozas School Olympics took place, the most important sports event in the municipality that will bring together students from the city’s educational centers to compete in 28 sports disciplines at the Dehesa de Navalcarbón sports center and the Fairground.

The day started at 10:45 am in the Plaza Mayor, where the mayor of Las Rozas, José de la Uz, accompanied by the Sports Councilor, Juan Cabrera, lit the torch and handed it to the first relay runner, beginning their journey to the athletics track of the Navalcarbón sports center, where the students from 27 participating schools paraded. The Olympic torch entered the stadium and, after a lap around the track, the cauldron was lit in the presence of the Paralympic athlete, Sara Andrés, who said in her speech, «Today at this inauguration, I felt the same emotion and spirit as in the three Paralympic Games I have participated in.» Also present at the inauguration was the Director General of the Spanish Paralympic Committee, Alberto Jofre.

De la Uz wanted to emphasize that «the School Olympics, of which we are inaugurating the thirtieth edition today, are one of the most anticipated moments of the year in our municipality. A week where the whole city: families, schools, teachers, students, and municipal workers, come together around sports. Because in Las Rozas, we believe in the values that Olympism transmits to us, such as effort, overcoming, and companionship.»

After the speeches and the lighting of the Olympic flame, flags were displayed, and the Olympic Oath was read by Alberto Vadillo, a student from the Santa María de Las Rozas school, officially inaugurating the School Olympics.
