La Comunidad de Madrid presentará denuncia contra Reyes Maroto por sus declaraciones sobre las residencias.
The Community of Madrid has announced this Friday that it will file a lawsuit against the spokesperson of the PSOE in the City Council of Madrid, Reyes Maroto, for stating that 7,291 elderly people were «murdered» in the region’s nursing homes during the pandemic. In a statement, the spokesperson of the regional government, Miguel Ángel García, has stated that the legal services of the Community of Madrid are working on «the appropriate legal actions» against Reyes Maroto, for statements in which the Madrid government is accused of «the murder of elderly people in nursing homes during the covid.»
In statements to the press this Thursday before meeting with the Citizen Council of Seniors of the city of Madrid, the spokesperson of the PSOE in the City Council stated that «there were 7,291 victims, elderly people murdered in these nursing homes as a result of not being transferred to hospitals in our Community, as a result of a protocol of shame that has the signature of the Government of the Community of Madrid presided over by Mrs. Ayuso.»
More than 60 complaints dismissed for the management of the pandemic in the Community of Madrid
Following these statements, the Government of Díaz Ayuso will file a lawsuit against Maroto because «anything goes in politics and statements like those made by the spokesperson of the PSOE, Reyes Maroto, where a crime is attributed to us cannot go unpunished,» emphasized the spokesperson of the regional government, Miguel Angel García Martín.
Fátima Matute: «Mrs. Maroto is a shameless person because talking about murders in nursing homes seems despicable to me»
When asked about the statements of Reyes Maroto, the Health Minister, Fátima Matute, said: «Mrs. Maroto is a shameless person because talking about murders in nursing homes seems despicable to me.»
«She should focus on her relationships with (businessman Víctor de) Aldama and those regrettable statements she made and doesn’t know how to cover up her shame, and precisely uses these strong phrases to cover up her disastrous management and corruption,» Matute added in reference to the socialist spokesperson in the City Council.
Fátima Matute: «During the pandemic, the Government prioritized politics over life»
The president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, considered these accusations «extremely serious» and emphasized from London that Reyes Maroto’s words are also an insult to the professionals in Madrid. Her words «mean that there have been geriatricians and healthcare workers who have murdered in nursing homes»; «people who gave their lives and who in the most difficult moments of this pandemic exposed themselves to save the elderly in nursing homes, for whom they devote themselves.»
On the other hand, the Mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez Almeida, announced this Friday that they are severing institutional relations with the municipal group of the PSOE in the City Council due to Maroto’s statements, which the mayor described as «unacceptable, nauseating, and indecent». «We have reached the limit. We cannot allow sanchismo and Reyes Maroto to continue turning Madrid politics into a real quagmire and twisting the pain of the victims,» he stated in a video sent to the media this Friday, in which he assured that they will have «no type of treatment or relationship» with the PSOE in the City Council.
Maroto: «It was not my intention, obviously, to accuse anyone of murder»
From Maroto’s team, a statement has been released this afternoon retracting her words and acknowledging that they were not the «most appropriate».
«It was not my intention, obviously, to accuse anyone of murder, but to highlight that these people died in Madrid nursing homes without receiving adequate medical treatment,» she said.
All this on a day when the Madrid PP also announced that «all its representatives are breaking off relations» with the Government Delegate in the Community, Francisco Martín, «for his accusations» against the Government of Isabel Díaz Ayuso, which represent «the worst of politics and human nature.» This was conveyed to Martín by the Secretary General of the Madrid PP, Alfonso Serrano, in a letter obtained by EFE and in which the ‘popular’ party states that, from now on, their contact with the Government Delegation will be limited to «indispensable technical levels.»

According to Serrano, «the last straw of human and political indecency» is a message that Martín posted yesterday on his X account «directly blaming President Díaz Ayuso and her Government for the tragedy in Madrid nursing homes.»
The pandemic had a special impact on the most vulnerable, especially the elderly.
Nursing homes across Spain faced a dramatic situation. The management of this crisis was difficult and has since been a source of political confrontation.

The left has criticized the regional government’s actions during the height of the coronavirus, encouraging families of the deceased to denounce protocols, which have nevertheless received scientific and judicial backing so far.
