Issues of coexistence among residents or merchants, pet-related concerns, cleanliness, or uncivil behavior are among the main cases addressed
The Neighborhood Police Unit of Las Rozas has carried out a total of 1,836 interventions in 2024, its first year of operation since its establishment. This is reflected in the Performance Report of the Local Police, which details the activities of this Unit, with 90% of its tasks being preventive actions and 10% responding to residents’ requests.
The Neighborhood Police, which began operating on January 15, 2024, with a total of 11 members (2 leaders and 9 police officers), currently consists of 16 members, as 5 more officers have joined the Unit.
Among its preventive work, the 404 foot patrols stand out, aiming to establish closer relationships with residents and merchants. Secondly, the 288 High Visibility Points (PAVIS) were strategically planned in areas such as commercial zones and public transportation stations, where there are occasional high concentrations or foot traffic, enhancing subjective security. There were also 205 dynamic surveillances in specific areas of the municipality where the need for objective security was identified after analyzing the data from complaints filed with the Civil Guard.
A total of 109 requests were addressed by the Neighborhood Police, the majority of which came from the three district councils. The main reasons were issues of coexistence among residents or merchants, pet-related concerns, cleanliness, or uncivil behavior, in which the Unit mediated to resolve disputes.
Another function carried out in 2024 was the implementation of the VICUS Program, which encompasses 6 specific plans for different groups in Las Rozas. The first of these was called PROPECO (Protection of Small Businesses), which involved visits to a total of 791 businesses. In each visit, a profile with relevant information for police purposes is created, and a personalized and regular interaction with the businesses is encouraged. These regular contacts between merchants and police officers have generated an increase in valuable information, leading to subsequent interventions that have contributed to crime prevention.
The new Unit has enhanced and expanded the accessibility to police services for citizens. The Mobile Citizen Service Office has increased its weekly service points from 5 to 20 in the outskirts of the municipality, operating in the mornings and afternoons. Additionally, another contact point has been opened at the Las Matas Civic Center, during weekdays from 09:00 to 13:00. Here, lost or found items can be managed, as well as any advice on police matters that citizens may need.
