La situación en Madrid capital se encuentra más estable tras las intensas lluvias y la crecida de los ríos.
The Vice Mayor of Madrid and Delegate for Security and Emergencies, Inma Sanz, has reported this Saturday that the situation in the capital is «more stabilized» after the intense rains recorded in recent days due to the storm ‘Martinho’, although she has pointed out that the City Council remains in «constant contact» with the Tajo Hydrographic Confederation and the Community of Madrid to assess the levels of the reservoirs.
In statements released to the press from the Integrated Security and Emergencies Center (CISEM), Sanz emphasized that Friday night experienced «some complicated moments» with the rain, as it caused «a peak» in the rise of the Manzanares River, leading to the closure of the M-30 to the M-40 in the A-6 direction.
Sanz has issued a cautionary message to citizens to not approach «under any circumstances» to the riverbeds, especially the Manzanares River and the Jarama River.
The rains retreat from Madrid this Sunday although the cold continues
Given this scenario, it has been pointed out that the City Council has «evaluated and worked on» alternatives in case it is necessary to take «additional measures» such as road closures, although at the current moment, it has been assured that they are not foreseen unless the situation changes.
«If the weather forecasts are met, in principle, the rains will diminish throughout today and will not be as abundant as they have been in the last two days,» stated the Vice Mayor, although she urged the people of Madrid to stay informed through official channels to monitor the real-time effects.
25 reservoirs in the Tajo demarcation area exceed the red alert
The City Council and Emergency Services monitor the situation minute by minute, with the emergency plan active until Monday. Although the riverbed has stabilized, road closures are not ruled out, such as on the A6, passing through the Manzanares, or on the A2, at kilometer 16, due to the rise of the Jarama River.
The most critical areas are between El Pardo and Puente de los Franceses, while major parks, such as Retiro, remain indefinitely closed after trees fell due to rain and wind.
Dams, such as Mingo Rubio, which releases 60 m³/s into the Manzanares, and Vado, with over 100 m³/s into the Jarama, continue to discharge water intensively.
And if the Manzanares overflows… These are the roads and areas at risk
Emergency Madrid insists on avoiding approaching riverbeds, especially in unchannelled sections, and recommends staying informed through official channels.
