  • It is about 11 units, connected to a control center and capable of compacting waste with solar energy

  • De la Uz: «These intelligent devices are an example of how innovation can be applied to improve municipal management»

From today, the streets of Las Rozas have new intelligent solar trash cans, a project that has been financed through the Next Generation EU Funds, under the aid program for strengthening commercial activity in tourist areas within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan, whose installation and startup represented an investment of 72,600 euros, VAT included. There are 11 trash cans with a self-pressing system for waste, powered by the solar energy generated by the device itself. Additionally, they constantly monitor their usage and fill level, allowing data collection to optimize the entire system and improve the efficiency of emptying frequencies.

The Mayor of Las Rozas, José de la Uz, accompanied by the Councilor for Environment and City Services, Jaime Santamarta, visited the surroundings of the Zoco de Monte Rozas Shopping Center this morning, where one of the intelligent trash cans has been installed.

«We continue to bet on applying new technologies to the day-to-day life of our city. These intelligent trash cans are an example of how innovation can be applied to the management of our municipality, improving the efficiency of waste collection services. Thanks to these sensors, we can know at all times the occupancy level of the trash cans and detect and resolve any issues with the devices. At the same time, all the data generated is collected in the city’s comprehensive management platform,» said De la Uz.

In addition to the Zoco de Monte Rozas, the new intelligent trash cans have been installed in the vicinity of the Las Matas Cercanías Station; Calle Real (two units); Plaza de España; Camilo José Cela Boulevard, between Las Rozas Village and Heron City; La Tortuga Shopping Center in Punta Galea; the commercial area of Molino de la Hoz; the roundabout of Los Castillos near the Soho; the El Burgo commercial area, the La Marazuela Health Center.

In order to guarantee accessibility of these new trash cans to people with disabilities and special needs, the form and arrangement of manipulation elements are accessible to people with reduced mobility and wheelchair users, presenting anatomical mechanisms and accessible elements located at a height between 90 and 120 cm., and incorporating tactile identification elements for the visually impaired and graphic labeling and accessible text for people with reduced vision.

Weighing Scales

De la Uz took advantage of the visit to the Zoco de Monte Rozas area to learn about the new weighing scale recently installed at the Aristóteles Street Clean Point, an equipment that has also been provided to the El Abajón Clean Point and will improve the control of the reintegration of waste into the production process and contribute to a circular economy model.

The installation of these scales has received a grant of 52,819.20 euros, granted by the Circular Economy Program and the Waste Impulse Plan-PIMA Residuos of the Ministry of Environment, Housing and Agriculture of the Community of Madrid. The aim is to equip both municipal facilities with the mentioned weighing scales as well as associated computer programs, to have first-hand information on the separate collection of waste at clean points, as well as to verify and validate the information provided by authorized managers.
