De la Uz: «This first area confirms Las Rozas’ commitment to sustainable mobility and technology to facilitate the travel of our residents and visitors within and outside the city»
The mayor of Las Rozas and president of Las Rozas Innova, José de la Uz, accompanied by the Minister of Housing, Transport and Infrastructure of the Community of Madrid, Jorge Rodrigo, inaugurated this morning the first Multimodal Mobility Area of the city. It is a surface area of over 2,000 square meters, renovated by the City Council and managed by Las Rozas Innova, located in Las Matas, next to the Cercanías Station, and housing various forms of mobility.
«This area confirms the commitment of the City Council, together with Las Rozas Innova, to sustainable mobility to facilitate the travel of our residents and visitors both within and outside the city,» said José de la Uz, mayor of the city and president of the Public Innovation Company. «It is also an example of how public-private collaboration and technology can help meet the needs of residents and make our city more environmentally friendly and attractive for companies and workers, and ultimately for the talent that comes to work in Las Rozas every day,» added De la Uz.
The new Area has 62 parking spaces, seven of which have charging points for electric vehicles, two are reserved for the carsharing services operating in the city (Zity and Wible), and another two are for reduced mobility with the possibility of electric charging. In addition, the Area has 20 secure parking spaces (locker type) for bikes and scooters with the option of recharging, complemented by another open space for free parking of Personal Mobility Vehicles. The goal of the area is to concentrate different forms of transportation in one space to facilitate the combination of the various available modes of transport: train, bus – connection with five lines -, car, carsharing, bike, or scooter.
De la Uz highlighted that «thanks to Las Rozas Innova, we are managing to bring the latest technological advances and we are doing so with funding, in large part, from European Funds thanks also to the Municipal Innovation Company, which has already managed to secure more than 21 million euros for projects in the city.»
Technology and sustainability
The installation is ticketless (using technology to identify and manage vehicle access and exit without using paper) and features a 220 m2 bioclimatic pergola, which, in addition to providing protection and shade to the parking spaces, houses photovoltaic panels for the self-consumption of the electric chargers and a sensor system for occupancy control of the spaces.
The electric vehicle charging area consists of 3 double chargers with a total of 6 semi-fast charging sockets up to 22 kW, and a fast charger of up to 50 kW in direct current. The chargers are already integrated into various commercial operator applications for locating and paying for charges, as well as in Las Rozas Recarga, the App managed by Las Rozas Innova that integrates the entire Municipal Network of Charging Points, where users can check the availability of the 48 charging points in the network distributed among the city’s public parking lots.
New actions
The Multimodal Area of Las Matas will soon be joined by the Business Park Area (Camilo José Cela Boulevard at the height of Heron City), which will have eight spaces with electric vehicle charging points (semi-fast charging) and ten secure parking spaces (lockers) with the possibility of recharging for scooters and bikes, as well as an open space for free parking of Personal Mobility Vehicles.
The renovation of both areas has been carried out by the Infrastructure and Works Department, led by José Cabrera, with an investment of 374,614 euros, partly financed by the funds from the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan financed by the European Union, Next Generation EU Funds, obtained through the European Funds Acquisition Office of Las Rozas Innova, which will manage all the services of both areas as well as the rest of the city’s public parking lots.
Setting of a European study with Artificial Intelligence
It should be noted that the Multimodal Mobility Area of Las Matas has been chosen as one of the ten European urban areas for safety improvement within Las Rozas’ participation, through Las Rozas Innova, in the European project AMIGOS (Active Mobility Innovations for Green and safe city sOlutionS). Its renovation has been the setting for an innovation study carried out by the Austrian Institute of Technology, one of the project partners, which aims to apply Artificial Intelligence (AI) in data analysis to conduct studies for improvement in public space and traffic safety and coexistence. It is a study in which pedestrian flows on sidewalks, pedestrian crossings, and road crossings can be compared before and after the area’s renovation, thanks to AI-equipped technological devices, and analyze the real impact of the renovation on the area’s accessibility and safety.
Comprehensive Parking Remodeling and Electrification Boost
This intervention in the Las Matas parking lot is part of the Comprehensive Remodeling Plan for Las Rozas Parking Lots and the Electrification Boost Plan, which the Public Innovation and Technological Development Company is carrying out as part of the actions included in the city’s Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan.
In the last two years alone, various renovations have been carried out in the public parking lots of Las Rozas, representing an investment of 839,624 euros for the modernization of the facilities of the Constitución, Cañadilla, Biblioteca Leon Tolstoi, and Las Matas parking lots. As part of these interventions, the latest technology has been integrated to facilitate access to the parking lots, such as license plate reading systems and ticketless or «paperless» management, improving operation, as all data has been integrated into a digital management system, positioning Las Rozas parking lots among the most innovative and advanced.
It is worth noting that, as part of the City Council’s commitment to facilitating mobility in the municipality, two stations for recharging Personal Mobility Vehicles were launched last February in the Primero de Mayo park (Las Matas) and in the París park (Centro), an initiative also funded by European Funds. In a second phase, the plan is to expand the VMP charging network at locations such as the El Pinar RENFE station or the UNED.
The Las Rozas Multimodal Mobility Area is funded by the European Union’s Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan, Next Generation EU Funds.
