Los trabajadores de Corrugados Getafe suspenden las movilizaciones tras alcanzar un preacuerdo

Manifestación de los trabajadores de Corrugadospor las calles de Getafe

Workers at Corrugados Getafe have virtually unanimously signed a pre-agreement within the framework of the collective dismissal procedure (ERE) for the staff, as confirmed by the president of the works council, José Lagos.

The pre-agreement has been «submitted to the workers’ assembly» this Friday, and has been «approved by the staff almost unanimously».

According to the works council, the Management has acknowledged the «legal impropriety» of the dismissals, which will result in a higher compensation for the workers.

«Despite the satisfaction with the agreement reached, today is a deeply sad day for the staff, for the city of Getafe, and for the Madrid industry»

Lagos has stated that they will «never» be satisfied with the terms reached because, fundamentally, 150 life projects have been paralyzed.

The pre-agreement puts an end to the scheduled mobilization calendar for the staff, which began with a concentration at the doors of the foundry and a march from there to the Constitution Square of Getafe earlier this week.

Corrugados no longer has activity after the Community of Madrid tightened the Comprehensive Environmental Authorization (AAI) and prohibited nighttime activity, following complaints from residents for years in Los Molinos and Camino Viejo de Pinto (Juan de la Cierva), residential areas just a few meters from the factory.

Now, the 150 workers will have paid leave until June 30. After that, ‘Corrugados’ will begin notifying the layoffs.

For CCOO, the agreement reached «means that the workers affected by the collective dismissal will receive compensation equivalent to that of an unfair dismissal, that is, the maximum legally provided for».

As part of the agreement, support measures have been agreed upon for the affected workers. The company offers the affected workers a plan that guarantees a 90% relocation rate for a duration of 9 months.

The union has reiterated that, «despite the satisfaction with the agreement reached, today is a deeply sad day for the staff, for the city of Getafe, and for the Madrid industry».

In fact, it considers that the closure of Corrugados Getafe «means the disappearance of a factory with over 75 years of history, which has been a driving force for employment and economic development in the area».

«Quality jobs are lost and a fundamental part of the industrial fabric of the Community of Madrid is extinguished,» it stated
