Madrid contratará a 85 nuevos médicos de Familia

A total of 85 family doctors completing their training this month in the region as residents of this specialty have chosen positions to work in the public Primary Care centers of the Community of Madrid on Monday, according to the Ministry of Health.

The data improves the percentages obtained in the previous call, as 51.83% of the 164 positions offered have been filled, representing a 5.4 percentage point increase compared to 2024, as indicated in a statement by the Department led by Fátima Matute.

This year, the number of proposed positions is significantly lower than the previous year (202) «thanks to the improvement being experienced in the coverage of human resources at this care level,» highlights Health, which considers the data «very positive.»

The Amyts union details that out of a total of 149 last-year MIRs interested in the positions offered by the Ministry of Health, 85 have ultimately chosen to continue their work in Madrid’s health centers as assistants.

Additionally, two pediatricians who have completed their training in centers of the Madrid Health Service (Sermas) have chosen positions in primary care today. Amyts specifies that initially there were six pediatric residents interested in the contracts.

This year, a total of 29 positions have been offered in the public health centers of the region, a number lower than the previous year (53). Consequently, 6.9% of the positions have been filled, compared to 1.9% in the previous call.

This number of hirings has been achieved after a year of work by the Primary Care Management to inform residents of the labor conditions offered by the Madrid public health system, including the presence of the Health Minister, Fátima Matute, in meetings with the MIRs.

For the second consecutive year, residents have responded very positively to the measure that allows groups of doctors to choose to work in the same health center, so that five primary care facilities with attendance difficulties thus cover their medical staff.

These are the centers Panaderas (Fuenlabrada), Parque Oeste (Alcorcón), La Paz (Rivas-Vaciamadrid), Presentación Sabio (Móstoles), and Los Rosales (Madrid) where fifteen doctors will be distributed.

Furthermore, seventeen new doctors have chosen to participate in a new initiative promoted by the Management to fill positions in the healthcare facilities that need it most, so they will have consultations four days a week at their reference health center and a fifth day at another facility with a doctor shortage.

To encourage hiring and retain the talent of pediatricians and family doctors in primary care, the regional government compensates with 450 euros in the salary per month for professionals in categories considered deficient in the National Health System.

Additionally, it offers supplements for the afternoon shift (500 euros per month), the mixed shift (300), or those obtained for working in rural areas (310).

It is also possible to work in the opposite hours to the usual time, thanks to the so-called demand absorption schedules in the region, paid at 50 euros per hour, up to a maximum of four per day.

The Amyts medical union celebrates the increase in the percentage of new Family doctors choosing these contracts, an increase that they believe has been observed since the strike in the sector that brought labor improvements.

However, it emphasizes that the situation in Pediatric primary care is still «critical» and calls for «urgent solutions» to avoid losing the value of this specialty in healthcare.
