Madrid critica al Gobierno por descuidar la gestión ferroviaria en medio de escándalos de corrupción
The Minister of Housing, Transport, and Infrastructure, Jorge Rodrigo, has accused the Pedro Sánchez government of neglecting railway management by being preoccupied with «covering up corruption,» resulting in continuous incidents in the network, and has demanded more investment.
The Minister referred to the delays recorded on various lines of the Madrid Cercanías network in recent days, as well as the recent disruptions in the Media Distance and High-Speed network. «They don’t care about public transport management. Minister Óscar Puente is focused on something else, in this case, he is dedicated, like the rest of the ministers, to covering up the corruption of the PSOE and the Pedro Sánchez government, instead of managing the public services they have here in the Community of Madrid,» he denounced.
Incidents on the Cercanías network, he recalled, affect the rest of the public transport managed by the Community of Madrid, and in this regard, he has called on the central government to increase investment in the transport networks that depend on the State. «We have demanded the minister on several occasions the opportunity to sit down to see what investments were being made. What we ask is simply to create a shock investment plan in Madrid and to make the investments that were prepared to be executed in all the Cercanías networks in 2019,» he explained.
Rush hour delays on lines C3, C4, and C5 of Cercanías due to various incidents
Almost 700 incidents in Cercanías Madrid
These statements come after another week of incidents on the trains. In Cercanías Madrid, two signal failures caused delays this Friday on three lines, C-3, C-4, and C-5. Adding to the delays, also this week, on the Ave Madrid Barcelona due to another copper theft.
2025 hasn’t improved for the Madrileños who use Cercanías. Up to last Sunday, July 6, there have been 684 incidents on the Cercanías network of the Community. The most notable reasons are breakdowns in rolling stock (119) and in facilities with 292. The most affected lines are C-4 with 143, C-5 with 118, and C-8 with 112, according to data from the Ministry of Transport.
