Pedrezuela has become the first municipality in the region with the first bus shelter with heating in order to improve the service for travelers. This pilot project will allow the Regional Transport Consortium to evaluate the performance of this prototype during periods of intense cold with the aim of expanding it to other towns in the mountains next year.
The Minister of Housing, Transport, and Infrastructure, Jorge Rodrigo, visited the town today to learn about this innovative device, «accessible and highly efficient, which demonstrates our commitment to incorporating innovative solutions in Madrid’s public transportation, with a particular focus on rural areas,» he emphasized.
«It’s a fantasy,» a young man from the town summed up. «I’m not moving from here,» a senior lady who has already enjoyed this heated bench assured with laughter.

The system, developed by the company Clear Channel, involves installing a metal bench equipped with a thermostat and a timer so that the heating turns on and off in line with the service hours of the bus routes.
This device can only be installed in shelters that have 24-hour electrical connection. Furthermore, the entire installation has the necessary protections to ensure the safety of passengers.
Currently, Pedrezuela has 21 bus stops connecting the municipality with the capital and several surrounding towns such as Buitrago del Lozoya, El Vellón, or San Agustín de Guadalix.
The minister pointed out that the new infrastructure being installed in the region is made from 100% recyclable materials and incorporates energy-efficient solutions that are environmentally friendly. He also added that if this project is successful, «it will be expanded to the other five shelters located in mountain passes».

Currently, excluding the city of Madrid, there are 7,500 bus stops, 4,200 poles, and 3,500 shelters, five of which are in mountainous areas (Braojos, Cercedilla, two in Santa María de la Alameda, and the one presented today).
