Posible responsable de incendio en Méntrida: colilla lanzada desde un coche

The Méntrida fire in Toledo started this Thursday at three in the afternoon. The fire originated in a ditch along the road that connects Valmojado with that Toledo town, very close to a property where several structures for material storage have burned. Furthermore, the initial hypotheses suggest that the flames might have been caused by a cigarette butt.

The Méntrida fire is still active, although it is contained and in the control phase

It is still early to know the exact causes that triggered the fire. Some locals who witnessed the proximity of the flames firsthand indicate that they were clearing brush in the area. They also suggest that it could all be due to a cigarette thrown from a car, precisely at a point where the clearing work had not yet been carried out.

A few meters from the ditch where the fire originated is the property of Manolo, partially devastated by the flames and still smoldering.

Evacuated residents of Navalcarnero and Casarrubios return to their homes

«My wife warned me, she was on the other side of the property. I ran out as soon as the fire broke out,» this resident tells us, stating that it was «impossible to control it with the strong winds. I tried to contain it a bit, but it was impossible.»

Manolo was accused at first of being responsible for the fire. «They were investigating to see if he had been working around here that could have caused the fire, but no,» explains this resident. «Then another neighbor came, recorded where it started, and how the flames began.»
