Vamos a impugnar la tasa de basuras por considerar fraudulento el informe económico en el que se basa.

Javier Ortega Smith, portavoz de Vox en el Ayuntamiento de Madrid

The spokesperson for Vox in the City Council of Madrid and deputy in the Congress, Javier Ortega Smith visited the Onda Madrid studios on Wednesday, where he was interviewed on ‘Good Morning, Madrid’.

Ortega Smith referred to the garbage tax, which he considers «shameful and a big lie», so his party will challenge it in court considering it «improperly calculated» and believes that the economic report «is a complete fraud».

Key points of the garbage tax in Madrid: how much it will cost, deadlines, and differences by neighborhoods

According to Javier Ortega Smith, the municipal government «has not been able to calculate or explain how it calculates the tax that each citizen has to pay based on the garbage they supposedly produce.»

«There are no technical calculations that explain and justify this tax, nor is there any principle of proportionality.

«There is no principle that says you will pay more because you produce more garbage and therefore, it seems like a complete fraud from a fiscal point of view,» he emphasized.

Ortega Smith criticized that «not even a comparative study with other similar situations required by the law has been taken into account.»

The City Council will inform Madrid residents by letter about the payment of the garbage tax after the summer

He insisted that the tax is «a reflection of a public service that you have to pay for, but it must be demonstrated that you are receiving it.»

«It must be demonstrated that they are providing you with that public service and that specifically, they charge you the tax based on the public service they provide you. They have imposed a tax applying it equally to everyone and without comparative studies with similar situations in other cities. We will challenge it because we consider it illegal,» he stressed.

The Vox councilor indicated that he hopes that the Justice system «will rule in their favor» just like the court ruling that annulled the Low Emission Zones (LEZ).

«We hope that once again it is recognized that the Almeida Government is committing a serious illegality,» he stated.

«We have challenged so many illegalities of Mr. Almeida and we have won them all in court. It has become evident that the Rule of Law and the law matter very little to him,» he added.
