The Ciempozuelo Town Hall has given the green light to the remodeling project of the old slaughterhouse to transform it into «a modern cultural and tourist center adapted to different uses,» as it will be «a versatile open space that will meet accessibility and energy efficiency criteria.»

This was highlighted by the mayor, Raquel Jimeno, in front of more than fifty residents who attended the presentation of the rehabilitation project of the municipal Slaughterhouse of Ciempozuelos, which was detailed by the architects in charge of the center’s restoration.

The new slaughterhouse, with a budget of approximately 800,000 euros, «will preserve its identity and, in a way, return to its original form, eliminating all the elements added later,» as stated by the City Council in a statement.

In this way, «the fences will be recovered to show the back facade, the two interior courtyards will be connected again, and the current parking area will be removed from the front to create an access area with benches and green spaces.»

Additionally, the rehabilitation project will include new parking spaces for the new slaughterhouse, planned where the former gas station marquee of Ciempozuelos is currently located, which will be demolished as it is built on municipal land.

«We want to maintain the essence of the building. Everything that can be preserved will be kept, and what needs to be changed will be replaced with contextualized elements. Preserving the identity of the Ciempozuelos Slaughterhouse was the starting point for our work,» stressed the mayor.

The next step after presenting the project to the residents is to put the works out to tender, something that, as the mayor has anticipated, is expected to be done «before summer,» so if everything goes as planned, «the goal is for the construction to last approximately eight months once work begins.»

The 800,000 euros for the rehabilitation project of the old slaughterhouse will be assumed as a multi-year budget, and in 2025, there is already a budget of over 200,000 euros to start its restoration, as detailed by the mayor.

«The rest of the amount is intended to be covered with the debt that BBVA bank has started to pay for the demolition costs of the old ‘skeletons’ (of which it was 50% owner), as well as from the sale of several municipal plots,» she added.
