La línea 3 de Metro se extenderá hasta El Casar de Getafe este lunes
The Comunidad de Madrid will inaugurate this Monday, after Easter, the extension of Metro line 3 from Villaverde Alto to El Casar (Getafe). It will connect Villaverde Alto station in Madrid to El Casar in Getafe, joining Metro line 12 (MetroSur) and Cercanías Renfe via the C-3.
The Minister of Presidency, Justice, and Local Administration of the Community of Madrid and spokesperson for the regional government, Miguel Ángel García Martín, has emphasized that this is «the most important Metro extension project in the last 10 years.» «We are talking about nearly 3 kilometers of Metro that will benefit over a million residents, especially in the southern area,» García Martín pointed out to the media from Torrelaguna.
The works, which started at the beginning of 2022, have experienced various delays due to the need to make modifications to the project, particularly concerning ground treatments – excavation methods – and addressing water leaks.
The project, managed by a consortium formed by Ossa, Azvi, and Cotodisa, has involved the construction of a 2.62-kilometer tunnel to connect both stations and a new station in El Casar.
It has received an investment of nearly 92 million euros, funded by the European Union – Next Generation EU, as part of the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan.

This extension will benefit over a million users in the southern area, allowing them to reach Puerta del Sol in just 35 minutes, as well as the over 47,000 residents of the Villaverde Alto neighborhood in Madrid.
The Community of Madrid reopened the MetroSur section (L12) between Juan de la Cierva and El Casar (Getafe) last August, which had been closed since March 1st due to these line 3 extension works.
The main objective of this project is to provide MetroSur with a new link to the capital, enabling over a million passengers from the municipalities of Getafe, Leganés, Móstoles, Alcorcón, and Fuenlabrada to reach Puerta del Sol in just half an hour, as stated by the regional government in a note.
MetroSur will add this second connection to central Madrid
In this way, MetroSur will add this second connection to central Madrid, in addition to the existing one at Puerta del Sur (L10 and 12), in a comprehensive project with a total budget of 110 million euros (including VAT), including Next Generation European funds.
5 new elevators and a museum will be inaugurated at the Las Ventas Metro station
The new El Casar station will feature a pedestrian tunnel to connect to the adjacent Cercanías facilities and an above-ground parking lot for over 500 spaces with electric vehicle charging stations.
This action will also reorganize the urban and interurban bus network in Getafe to enhance intermodality within the municipality, with connections to the intercity buses 447, 448, 488, and N805, and two urban lines, improving transportation access for residents of the Los Molinos urban development.
