Today, at noon, the tranquility of the Tetuán neighborhood was abruptly interrupted by a brutal accident that left the residents in a state of shock. On López de Haro street, at the corner of Berruguete street, a speeding vehicle crashed into a parking meter, a traffic light, and a motorcycle, stopping just inches away from a pedestrian.

«The car was coming at full speed, at a very high speed, it didn’t slow down from 80 kilometers per hour, and then there was a very long braking. When I looked out, I saw the car already inside almost in the fruit shop, but it was stopped by the traffic light and the parking meter,» recounts a witness neighbor of the incident.

The scene was chaotic and alarming. The driver of the vehicle managed to get out on his own, but suspicions about his condition among the neighbors were evident: «He was either drugged or drunk,» adds the witness.

The person trapped between the car and the wall of the fruit shop is Pilar, a woman who was about to buy some fruit. «I was going to buy some lemons when I saw the car crash onto the sidewalk. All that happened to me was a scratch on my foot. Thank God it wasn’t anything serious because if I had crossed, it would have hit me directly,» she shares.

The timely intervention of medical services saved her life and that of other customers who were in the store at that time. However, what left a deep mark was the reaction of some passersby.

The first people who came to Pilar’s aid denounced the widespread lack of empathy. «When the accident happened, the woman was left there alone while many took out their phones to record. Only two or three of us went to help her,» laments a woman.

The Municipal Police arrived at the scene to conduct the necessary tests on the vehicle’s driver before detaining him. This tragic event has made it clear that today there has not only been an accident, but also a miracle
