Recomendaciones y Prevención de Incendios por Calor
The Town Hall provides preventive measures, especially for the elderly, children, athletes, and chronic patients. In addition, the City Council reminds residents of precautions to minimize the risk of forest fires.
Amidst the rising temperatures experienced in recent days, the Las Rozas Town Hall is intensifying efforts to inform the public about appropriate measures to protect health from the heat. A series of recommendations will be disseminated through social media and made available on the municipal website www.lasrozas.es.
Recommendations for Dealing with Heat
The advice is directed at all residents, with a particular focus on vulnerable populations such as the elderly, infants, children, and chronic patients. Specific measures are outlined to safeguard health during intense heat days, including recommendations tailored for high-risk groups like the elderly, children, and individuals engaged in outdoor labor or sports activities.
Recognizing the symptoms associated with heat-related problems is crucial in order to respond promptly. From skin irritations and cramps to potentially life-threatening situations like heat exhaustion or heatstroke, being aware of these signs is essential for seeking urgent medical attention when necessary.
Hydration and Sun Protection
Health issues linked to high temperatures can be mitigated with simple measures: staying well-hydrated by consuming water or fluids regularly, seeking shade in cool environments, spending time in air-conditioned spaces, taking cool showers, and avoiding direct sunlight. Additionally, maintaining a diet with light, hydrating foods like salads, fruits, vegetables, cold soups, and juices is advised. Outdoor activities should be limited during peak heat hours, and when outside, individuals are encouraged to wear light-colored, breathable clothing, cover their heads, and wear comfortable, ventilated footwear.
Elderly individuals, patients, and children are at higher risk. Those living alone, people with specific illnesses (cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, neurological, diabetes), or taking certain medications should take extra precautions. Consultation with a healthcare provider is recommended for older adults, individuals on medication, or those with chronic conditions to determine additional preventive measures.
Preventing Sunburn
Sunburns occur from prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, and can be prevented by limiting sun exposure, using protective creams, and wearing appropriate clothing.
Fire Prevention
As summer approaches, forest fire prevention measures are activated. The Las Rozas Town Hall emphasizes preventive, restrictive, and prohibitive measures to prevent wildfires. Property owners must clear dry vegetation from their land by June 15, obtain authorization from the Directorate General of Civil Protection for controlled burns of vegetative waste, and refrain from activities that pose fire risks.
By adhering to these guidelines, residents can safeguard their health during periods of high temperatures and reduce the risk of forest fires.
