Vecinos de Cuatro Vientos exigen soterramiento de la A-5 hasta la M-40 en Cibeles

Obras de soterramiento de la A-5

The Dehesa del Príncipe Neighborhood Association has called for a gathering this Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. at Plaza de Cibeles to demand that the second phase of the A-5 underground project extends to the M-40. They denounce that the current project excludes Cuatro Vientos, leaving its 7,000 residents exposed to noise and pollution.

Criticism of the current A-5 underground agreement

Last week, the Platform for the A-5 Underground to the M-40 expressed disagreement with the recent agreement signed between the City Council of Madrid and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda.

It’s official: Madrid will bury a second section of the A-5, up to Avenida de la Aviación

This agreement includes the execution of the second section of the underground project, which will connect the tunnel from the first phase (up to Avenida del Padre Piquer) with Avenida de la Aviación. However, the project excludes Cuatro Vientos, just 800 meters from the M-40, perpetuating the neighborhood’s exposure to pollution and noise from the highway, according to residents.

«This plan excludes Cuatro Vientos from the Southwest Green Walk, violating the fundamental rights of its residents and directly affecting their health,» the platform denounced. Residents find it incomprehensible that the focus is on underground projects in areas like Operación Campamento, a new developing neighborhood, while ignoring current residents living alongside the A-5.

Community mobilization in the face of government indifference

In recent weeks, the association has intensified its efforts to demand the inclusion of Cuatro Vientos in the project, facing what they describe as «indifference» from the regional and national governments.

They accuse the City Council of breaking its electoral promise and warn that the exclusion of the neighborhood perpetuates pollution and isolation.

Additionally, they criticize the impact of the temporary Príncipe Pío interchange and demand urgent measures to improve mobility. Through this protest, they aim to pressure the authorities to prevent the southwest of Madrid from being marginalized.
